Digital Albatross Design and Consulting, in partnership with Martin Nye of the new Sunrise Gallery, has re-launched this site as an on-line gallery portfolio for individual artists.
Digital Albatross is a computer consulting and web development company in Hamilton, Ontario. Diana Gordon and John Switzer are the two principals. Diana is an oil painter and graphics web designer. John is a software engineer with 15 years experience in digital multi-media.
We recognize that artists in Canada and abroad need a web presence to
showcase their work. But web sites for individuals are often too expensive
to develop and difficult to update. So we have devised a standard Gallery and Text Page format that allows artists to effectively display their art on the Internet.
The original Art-in website was Art-in-Guelph founded in 1999 by gallery
owner Doug Frank. In partnership with entrepreneur Tim Nye, he created
worldwide franchised web sites based on the Guelph model. These worked
well as a showcase; but not as a commercial operation.
While Doug Frank continued with Art-in-Guelph, Tim’s father Martin Nye took over the network of sites (under Art-in-Canada.com and ArtinWorld.org). Martin ran it for three years as a non-profit organization. He also opened the Sunset Gallery in Hamilton to display works by the local artists/subscribers. Coincidently, Diana Gordon was the first artist to exhibit at the former Sunset Gallery.
We hope that the new Art-in-Canada.com continues the tradition of offering
artists a reasonably priced way to publicly display their work, and
of giving priority to the individual art instead of the web site design.
